Audi A1 2010

The 2010 Audi A1 could take its cue from the Mini Cooper, which has been a solid success in its first five years. The A1 will be available with three impressively frugal units, a new 1.2 TFSI petrol engine with 86PS, a 1.4 TFSI petrol engine with 122PS and a diesel 1.6TDI engine with 105PS, all optimised by engine start-stop and energy recuperation systems to achieve low CO2 emissions and fuel consumption. The Audi A1 comes with a six-speed manual and is good for 44 mpg and 46 mpg with the optional seven-speed DSG transmission. To eke out even more fuel efficiency, Audi made an engine start-stop system and regenerative braking standard. On manual transmission cars the system shuts the engine down when the car is stopped, the gear selector is in neutral, and the clutch out. The system immediately restarts the engine as soon as the clutch pedal is depressed.

Other interior toys to pluck from the options list will include funky trim colours, heated seats and an LED interior light kit. There’s also a version of the ‘infotainment’ system found in Audi’s big luxury saloons, which incorporates 20Gb of hard drive space for music and satellite navigation and Bluetooth interface.
